Grant Writer

Reports To: Sr. Grant Writer
Salary Range: Staring salary based on experience, qualification, and budget. (100% time – 40 hours per week) Non-exempt.

Position Purpose: JWCH is looking for a grant writer to be an integral part of our growing Development team. Our development team is an important source of funding and a vital part of our growth strategy. JWCH has a strong record of grant writing success with consistent year-on-year growth, and this position offers an excellent opportunity to learn to develop and write successful proposals for corporate, nonprofit, and governmental funders. JWCH provides a wide range of services, and potential grant topics can range from primary medical care for adults and children to targeted HIV outreach and treatment for LGBT youth at risk of homelessness.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the Senior Grant Writer, Executive Team, and program leaders to identify funding needs, including renewing/replacing funding streams for existing programs and developing new programs
  2. Monitor new funding opportunity announcements and identify opportunities to support or expand programming
  3. Develop proposals based on program needs and funding opportunities, including drafting letters of intent, developing proposal that match needs and opportunities criteria, and writing the proposals
  4. Support grant reporting, including developing reporting calendars, reviewing and revising report language, and ensuring reports are submitted in a timely manner.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Excellent writing and editing skills, including experience with technical writing, grant writing, or a strong desire to learn grant writing
  2. Ability to work a part of a team and to communicate effectively with coworkers from diverse background
  3. Strong MS Office skills, especially Word and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro
  4. BA in Humanities (i.e. English, History, Philosophy, etc.), Social Sciences, or a related field with experience in technical and persuasive writing
  5. Commitment to working with disadvantaged communities, including the economically disadvantages, LGBT communities, undocumented migrants, and/or the homeless.

Education and Experience:

  1. BA in Humanities (i.e. English, History, Philosophy, etc.), Social Sciences, or a related field with experience in technical and persuasive writing
  2. Knowledge of health care industry, especially FQHCs
  3. Strong Excel skills
  4. Familiarity with data analysis
