Psychiatric Technician

Reports To: Program Director
Salary Range: Staring salary based on experience, qualification, and budget. (100% time – 40 hours per week) Non-exempt.

Position Purpose: Under the clinical supervision of the clinic director, the Psychiatric Technician has responsibility to engage with clients in a supportive and respectful manner, and to assist with monitoring their physical and emotional well-being. This includes reminding clients to self-administer their medications and documenting appropriately. Also, this position may assist clients with daily activities of living within the ESP Housing Program facility, including helping clients with navigating around the site or community, eating, dressing, and bathing as needed, 24 hours 7 days a week.  Works collaboratively as part of the Client Care Team.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Performs job functions as prescribed by established policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities
    • Monitors clients’ self-administration of medication
    • Monitor clients' physical and emotional well-being and report unusual behavior or physical ailments to medical staff. Reports and records observations of patient conditions
    • Provides input to ICMS team regarding clients’ emotional well-being
    • Assists with bed pans, urinals, commodes, and empty urine collection bags
    • Transfers clients to wheelchair, stretcher, in and out of bed, as needed
    • Assists with client navigation around the facility for meals, rehabilitative and recreational activities, laundry, and to vans for community appointments
    • Assists with meals as needed
    • Assists clients with hygiene and grooming activities
    • Assist partners within the client care team to support client health and safety
    • Assists in promoting patient safety and environmental cleanliness/safety
    • Develop and teach strategies to promote client wellness and independence
    • Other duties as assigned by Lead LVN and/or Director
  1. Documents pertinent patient information, following established policy and procedures
    1. Documents accurately in the electronic medical record or other methods as directed, regarding observations of patient response to care or physical conditions
    2. Documents all data clearly and thoroughly– using name and title, date and time
    3. Follows all program requirements for logging/documenting/reporting patient medical status
  1. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
    1. Discusses any patient/client information only with appropriate personnel when related to the care being provided,
    2. Maintains confidentiality for all documents that contain patient identifier information,
    3. Observes and respects confidentiality of information in regards to fellow employees.
  1. Responsibility and accountability for adherence to organizational and department standards and policy.
    1. Observes department guidelines concerning absences and reports absences to Director in accordance with departmental procedures,
    2. Self-identifies potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and takes initiative to report to the supervisor,
    3. Observes department guidelines to conduct personal business during breaks and lunch hour,
    4. Projects a positive professional image and adheres to organizational dress code.
  1. Participates in organizational programs/committees as assigned
    • Participates in assigned staff and other meetings, for operations and training
    • Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team,
    • Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.

  1. Minimum of one years' full-time experience or its part-time equivalent, providing direct care service in a program serving individuals with mental health disabilities.
  2. Licensed as Psychiatric Technician in accordance with the laws of the State of California
  3. Minimum one-year experience in a health care setting.
  4. Current BLS Certificate from the American Heart Association
  5. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
