Counselor – Drug & Alcohol Counselor

Reports To: Program Manager
Salary Range: Staring salary based on experience, qualification, and budget. (100% time – 40 hours per week)  Non-exempt.

Position Purpose: The Drug & Alcohol Counselor will provide counseling services to minority and low income pregnant and postpartum women, and their children at a women’s residential drug treatment program.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Work collaboratively with Pregnant and Post-Partum Woman’s Program team members
  2. Responsible for conducting intake, assessment, and establishing treatment plans,
  3. Conduct individual counseling sessions to as assigned caseload of substance abuse clients
  4. Responsible for facilitating counseling groups (Matrix, Seeking Safety, Parenting, Relapse Prevention)
  5. Collect necessary data for reporting purposes; complete reports as assigned and submit to Program Manager.
  6. Assist with coordinating outreach activities
  7. Interface with outside agencies and the judicial system relative to registered clients
  8. Possess a thorough knowledge of, and sensitively for the needs of our clients
  9. Collect necessary data for reporting purposes; complete reports as assigned and submit to Program Manager.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Certification from a recognized certifying organization, agency, or Board evidencing training and expertise in areas appropriate to and related to CHS program elements (CAADA, CCAADE, or CADTP)
  2. Two years’ experience as a drug and alcohol counselor
  3. Knowledge of trauma informed treatment, and evidenced base treatment for substance abuse and trauma (Matrix, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing and Nurturing Parenting Program)
  4. Familiar with trauma informed treatment
  5. Must have valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance and excellent driving record
  6. Excellent written, oral, organizational and documentation skills
  7. Perform multiple tasks while demonstrating the ability to work within a team structure

Preferred:

  1. Experience in residential setting working with minority and low income pregnant women and children.
  2. Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish preferred
