      BEST Program

      BEST ProgramThe BEST Program is an innovative program assisting homeless individuals in obtaining Social Security and/or Supplemental Security Income.  Homeless individuals who are living on the streets, in shelters, living in emergency or transitional housing or permanent housing less than a year. The individual must have a physical or mental disability that does not allow them to work.

      The BEST Project is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of case managers, outreach workers, physicians and psychiatrists that assists homeless clients in the preparation of Social Security applications as well as coordinated health, mental health and case management services during the application process.

       The Project is working directly with the Social Security Administration and the State of California Disability and Determination Services to maximize exp3diency in processing applications.

       The approval rate for the project is 87% for first time applications.
