      Skid Row Outreach Team

      The Skid Row Medical Outreach Team seeks out disenfranchised homeless individuals in the Los Angeles downtown area of Central City East commonly known as skid row. This program is one of our many collaborative efforts with Homeless Health Care Los Angeles (HHCLA). Outreach workers walk the streets, alleys and under freeways engaging individuals in conversation, while offering referrals. Community health workers conduct health assessment and referrals at sites throughout the area including:Skid Row Outreach

      Hippie Kitchen Tuesday & Thursday 8:30AM – 11:30PM
      Midnight Mission Shelter Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9:00AM – noon
      Bell Shelter Wednesday 1:00PM – 5:00PM
      Friday 1:00PM – 5:00PM

       

      At each clinic session, while the other team members conduct health assessments, the peer outreach case manager meets with homeless people individually and in groups, offering resources for substance abuse treatment, incentives for treatment, and a listening ear. Clients in need of further health care are referred to the JWCH Medical Clinic at the Weingart Centerand to Homeless Health Care LA for outpatient substance abuse treatment.
